单词首字母什么时候需要大写?这是不少孩子们经常感到头疼的问题。今天我们就把单词首字母需要大写的各种情况做一梳理，供大家参考，再遇到这样的问题时不再困惑。

　　1、特殊的单词

　　（1） 人名

　　（2） 地名

　　（3） 公司名

　　（4） 国家名

　　（5） 语言

　　（6） 组织机构名

　　（7） 重要的事件和项目

　　例：The Gorge Washington Bridge.

　　但是：当组织机构的名字没有被明确指出时，不需要首字母大写，例

　　John is an officer with the New York Police Department, the largest municipal police department in the United States.

　　2、正式的名称和姓氏

　　（1） 名称在名字之前，字母大写；

　　（2） 名称在名字之后，字母小写；

　　例：

　　We are pleased to introduce President Obama.

　　The conference will be led by Bill Gates, the chairman of Microsoft.

　　3、方位名词大写

　　当用方位词指示一个地理区域时大写，例

　　Growing up in a military family, Hunter spent many years in the Far East.

　　但是：在指示基本方向时，不需要大写，例

　　The stom is moving north at 17 miles per hour.

　　4、日、月和节假日

　　（1） 星期

　　（2） 月份

　　（3） 节假日

　　例：Independence Day

　　但是：季节不需要大写，例

　　Carol is going to Vail, Colorado, this winter.

　　5、引用和标题

　　当直接引用的内容放在引号里时，引用内容的首字母大写;如果引用书、电影或歌曲的名字，首字母大写，但是所有的冠词和介词需小写，例

　　Jenny said "Dances with Wolves" is her favorite Kevin Costner movie.

　　6、缩写和专用名词

　　缩写和基于专有名词的缩写时，所有字母大写，例

　　NBC is also known as the National Broadcasting Company.

　　注：大多数情况下，派生词不需要大写，例

　　The Penicillium fungus is used to make penicillin.
